HELLO ENGLAND!
Sadly, Carlisle isn't the best welcome to England one could hope for! Sure, the bits of park along the River Eden and around the Castle are nice enough - and the Cathedral and precinct are quite attractive - but, it has to be said, the rest of it, and the approaches to it are pretty grim. Still, we must be charitable, remembering the floods! Some good views along the Eden estuary and a little bit of riverside strolling south of the city made up for it. Tried to have lunch at the Turf Inn but it was too busy and the piped Muzak was dire. Glorious day again - shorts and T shirt in March - ridiculous! Goog progress again today too - another 8 or 9 miles, and have now reached Cummersdale, 2 or 3 miles south of Carlisle. Tomorrow, we follow the Cumbrian Way along the River Caldew to Sedbergham. Very little road tomorrow! What a relief!
